Job Description

The Director of Social Media is responsible for the development, execution, and growth for Public Storage’s social media footprint. This position will oversee social strategy, all social media programs and campaigns as well as content strategy road map. The Head of Social Media must demonstrate knowledge and expertise of social media tactics, have good analytic skills and the ability to analyze metrics across various tools and platforms to utilize the brand and voice to engage the audience through social campaigns.


  • Develop, implement, and execute highly measurable social media programs and campaigns
  • Manage user/audience engagement and experience that aligns with brand strategy
  • Increase engagement through paid and organic social campaigns and execute tactics to drive growth and awareness of Public Storage
  • Create and execute strategies across Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, Pinterest, Twitter, SnapChat, TikTok (et al.); stay abreast of up and coming platforms and tactics
  • Oversee content planning and implementation to support Public Storage initiatives and seasonal campaigns
  • Manage a team of individuals that support social media and content strategy (community management); manage ongoing agency and vendor relationships
  • Ongoing monitoring of results and exhibit sound decision making and adaptability for campaigns; use data and metrics to analyze campaign performance
  • Partner with external content creators, digital creatives, and/or influencers to drive engagement on brand with Public Storage voice
  • Monitor trends in social media channels, tools, and metrics and appropriately apply that knowledge to increase the effectiveness of the program; remain current on social media industry developments
  • Partner with internal communication team to maintain consistent brand messages
  • Lead, mentor and develop social media team members
  • Be a public representative of Public Storage by upholding brand standards company values through social media


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in a related field; digital marketing,
  • content creation, Journalism or public relations
  • 5+ years of social media experience; 3+ years of leading brand social media team(s), prior community management experience preferred
  • Hands-on experience with social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Linked In,
  • Pinterest, and other social media platforms required
  • Previous analytics experience managing and interpreting results through platform metrics
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and expectations
  • Ability to manage social media team KPIs and drive results
  • Excellent communication (written and interpersonal) and grammar skills; prior copywriting experience
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized and strategic problem-solving skills
