Job Description

The Director of Indirect Tax Compliance is responsible leading a team that handles all of Public Storage’s entities for Property and Sales Tax compliance. They will advise senior management on property tax issues, accrual of property tax expense, filing annual tangible personal property tax renditions, filing annual unclaimed property reports and payment of real and personal property tax. 

Responsibilities:

  • Advise senior-management regarding property tax expense, budgets, appeals, and current issues.
  • Analyze and record the monthly property tax expense for all Public Storage and related entities.
  • Review and file state and local Tangible Personal Property (TPP) Tax Renditions for all Public Storage and related entities in the U.S. 
  • Approve payments for all real and personal property taxes
  • Review and file all state and local Sales and Use Tax returns for all company locations
  • Ensure property tax payment records are updated and maintained in ONESOURCE Property tax
  • Review and file Unclaimed Property reports for all Public Storage entities.
  • Manage the annual property tax audit by external auditors.
  • Manage SOX compliance as it relates to property tax
  • Review real property tax proration on all acquisition properties.
  • Oversee state and local audits related to Sales Tax and TPP.
  • Lead & manage a team of direct reports and consultants

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • A minimum of 7 years experience accounting and property tax.
  • Knowledge of Property Tax and of experience in business process improvements, stakeholder management, people practices/management 
  • Proven leadership and strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent problem solving analytical skills, high attention to detail and critical thinking
  • Skilled in Microsoft office suite which includes, Office Excel, Word and Access
  • Excellent management, interpersonal and communication skills
